K\u00fcrzlich, als ich am Schreibtisch sass, h\u00f6rte ich das typische Klopfen eines Spechtes. Schnell holte ich die Kamera und \u00f6ffnete leise die T\u00fcre. Ich wollte versuchen den Specht zu fotografieren beim Suchen nach Nahrung unter der Rinde. Aber der Vogel muss mich geh\u00f6rt haben, denn er flog davon. Aber daf\u00fcr kam eine Blaumeise geflogen und begutachtete neugierig den Stamm, an dem vorher noch der Specht t\u00e4tig war.<\/p>\n

A few days ago, when I was sitting on my desk, I heard the typical knock of a woodpecker. With my camera in tow I quietly opened the door. I wanted to take a picture of the bird on its search of food in the bark. But I guess, the bird has heard me and flew away. A blue tit arrived instead and inspected the stem with curiosity.

The bird suspiciously inspected the surroundings and flew away too.<\/font><\/p>\n

Ich aber war neugierig und wollte sehen, was genau in dem vom Specht gemachten Locht zu finden war. Aha, eine unreife Haselnuss.<\/p>\n

But being a curious person, I wanted to know what was hidden inside the little hole which the woodpecker made. Well, I found a green hazelnut. <\/font><\/p>\n

Und wer kam dann pl\u00f6tzlich vom Boden her angeh\u00fcpft? Der Specht mit neuer Beute, die er wahrscheinlich auch irgendwo einklemmen wollte. Auf diese Weise kann er die Nuss \u00f6ffnen und den noch weichen Kern herauspicken.<\/p>\n

And who then suddenly arrived, hopping from the ground? The woodpecker with new hazelnuts, which it probably wanted to clamp in somewhere. With this method the bird can open the shell and pick out the soft green nut.

Nach ca. zwei Stunden als ich wieder das Loch betrachtete, war bloss noch eine leere halbe Nussschale zu sehen. Der Specht muss in der Zwischenzeit seinen Hunger gestillt haben.<\/p>\n

Two hours later, when I looked at the hole again, there was only half of the nutshell left. The woodpecker must have been hungry and busy. <\/font><\/p>\n

Bei n\u00e4herem Betrachten des doppelst\u00e4mmigen Pflaumenbaumes sah ich auf der rechten Seite oben ein neues Loch mit neuer Nuss, allerdings noch nicht ganz verspeist. Ist doch praktisch, wenn ein Nussknacker an jedem einigermassen dicken Baumstamm „verf\u00fcgbar“ ist?<\/p>\n

When examining the double stems of the plumtree more closely, I discovered a new hole on the right side, again with a little nut inside and half eaten. Isn’t it practical to have a nutcracker on almost every tree having a reasonable thick stem? <\/font><\/p>\n

Und am n\u00e4chsten Tag begann das Ganze wieder von vorne. Herr Specht scheint ein fleissiger Nussliebhaber zu sein.<\/p>\n
