Früher als Kind erhielt ich jeweils von meinen Eltern die restlichen Münzen, wenn sie von ihren Auslandreisen zurückkamen. Eine Weile sammelte ich diese und hatte Freude an den vielfältigen Formen und den darauf gezeigten Prägungen. Kürzlich habe ich einige davon wieder gefunden und Kindheitserinnerungen wurden wach. Ich sah mir die Münzen dann etwas genauer an. Und was entdeckte mein „grünes“ Auge ? Unter vielem anderen….Pflanzen!! Pflanzen die wahrscheinlich typisch für ein bestimmtes Land sind. Wenn mich bis vor ein paar Tagen jemand gefragt hätte, was genau auf der einen Seite „unserer“ Münzen sei, ich hätte es – ich gestehe es beschämt – nicht gewusst. Jetzt weiss ich es! Es sind ebenfalls Pflanzen, wobei mir aber nicht bei allen klar ist (und es mir auch nicht gelang Informationen zu bekommen) weshalb gerade diese Pflanze gezeigt wird. Wahrscheinlich ist es ein gestalterisches und – für die Zeit in der die Münzen gestanzt wurden – beliebtes Motiv, mit einer gewissen Aussagekraft (einheimische Pflanzen?) und auch Symbolik.
When I was a child, my parents always gave me the coins in foreign currencies when they returned from abroad. For a certain time I collected those and admired all the different forms and embossings. Some weeks ago, I discovered them again in a little box at my parent’s home and that’s when I looked at them a bit closer. And what did I see? Amongst other things , a lot of ….plants. Plants that obviously are typical for a certain country. And then I examined the coins of our country which up to now – shame on me – I didn’t really look at. There were plants too! However, I do not know exactly why some of those plants were chosen and unfortunately I didn’t get any information about it. I guess, those plants were typical and popular motives (also from the point of view of design) for the time when the coins were made. Over and above that, these plants also have a certain „importance“ for my country (native plants?), together with a symbolic meaning.
Auf der einen Seite der 5 Rappen Münze sieht man ganz deutlich einen Kranz mit Trauben und Traubenblättern. Für mich natürlich ein ganz speziell schönes und vertrautes Sujet, da ich in einer Weinbaugegend aufgewachsen bin.
On one side of the 5 Rappen coin you can see a wreath of grapes and its leaves. I like this subject very much as it reminds me where I was born and raised up , i.e. in a wine growing area.
Auf dem 10 Räppler findet sich eine Stileiche (Quercus robur). Eichen sind seit jeher symbolträchtige Bäume.

Und das 20 Rappenstück wird von einem Kranz aus Alpenrosen geschmückt, jener beliebten Pflanze, die sich auch heute noch häufig in unseren Bergen finden lässt.

Eine Mischung von Alpenrosen und Traubeneichen (Quercus petraea). Sichtbarer Unterschied zur Stieleiche? Letztere Eicheln wachsen am längeren Stil (sieht man unter der Lupe).

Auf der linken Seite der Münze ist das Edelweiss eingeprägt. Und auf der rechten sind Alpenrosen. Wenn ich mich nicht täusche, sieht man auch noch ein paar Enzianblüten, alles typische, einheimische Pflanzen aus unseren Bergen.
